Forthcoming projects
On 2/23/2015 Knowledge Society signed a contract with University of Crete and Natural History Museum of Crete for implementation of ACTION C.1: Evaluation of the project effectiveness of the project Life with the title “Promoting awareness of wildlife crime prosecution and liability for biodiversity damage in NATURA 2000 areas in Crete”. The aim of the action is to assess the initial baseline situation with regard to the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices of the stakeholders and target audiences with respect to the project objectives and against which to measure the project impact and the assessment of the project results. It’s about an environmental awareness survey that focuses on information about:
- The percentage of stakeholders and target audiences that are aware of wildlife crime as a special category of prosecution
- The percentage of stakeholders and target audiences aware of the liability for biodiversity damage
- The percentage of stakeholders and target audiences that took part in an prosecution procedure of wildlife crime
- The percentage of stakeholders and target audiences that acted towards liability for damage to biodiversity
- Number of criminal claims (before investigation, on investigation, on court)
- Number of prosecution files in all four first instance courts of Crete
- Sources of prosecution (ex officio prosecution, private claims, institutional claims)
- Number of cases where Bar associations took initiatives towards wildlife crime prosecution
- Number of cases where local NGO’s took initiatives towards liability for damage to biodiversity
- Number of cases where Decentralized Administration of Crete or other sectors of public administration in Crete asked the polluter to take action to remedy (or prevent) damage to biodiversity in Natura 2000 areas.
Research is still in progress.
